EMDR is a type of therapy developed to help people overcome traumatic events that may have occurred in their life.  Often when we experience distressing events we can process them quite naturally; after all we experience difficult life events throughout our lives.  However, sometimes the processing is prevented from occurring.  In these situations EMDR can be really helpful.  This therapy which uses eye movements whilst thinking about the traumatic event.  This always us to reprocess the event and let go of the emotions that may attached to it.
